Hey All. What does everyone think of the protests regarding the Chinese Olympics, about the Tibetan protests? Should people protest it? What should China do?

I've read that there's a major concern that there might be some nations that will boycott these Olympics! because of what China did to the protesters from Tibet. Do you think they should boycott Beijing Olympics or do you think that those who are hold this event together have nothing to do with the Chinese government? or because they represent China the Olympics should be boycotted??

I think it's wrong what they did to the protesters in Tibet, I don't really know much about the whole conflict between Tibet and China, all I know is that Tibet wants to gain it's independence from China.
But still it doesn't mean countries should boycott the Olympics because they are done by a special committe and alota work has been put into it, Chinese forces shouldnt have done what it did. But I think the Olympics is another thing. Well that's what i think ;D

I agree with it, but I think there should be some sort of international push for China to do something about its relationship with Tibet. What do others think?

Yes, what they did had not morals or ethics behind it. While I understand where you are coming from we can't tell China it has to do something who are we to force them that is the problem with the War today we are big bullies. President Bush wanted to make it seem like he over everyone which to me is a dictator and tell President Suddam he has to leave is country he does the same respect let stop messing with other countries affairs.

So you think that we should just let China persecute people in Tibet, and also continue to aid the government in Darfur?

No my personal opinion is no we should fight for the rights of people who can't fight. Still to a certain extent we need to respect the way that their President choose to run his country. No one looking a Bush beside the citizen and demanding him to make change or leave office. Based on Nuclear Weapons and other technologies people are afraid to question anything that the United States do. Zach look at the war today, in fact everyone take time and look how it started we demanded a President just like Bush of a country to step down out of office. Why? It was a smaller country that we knew that we could be. What type of respect is that? Who are we? Let stop using are power to manipulate other countries policy because we create more Enemies and start wars where we loose thousands

Hmm, it's a tricky situation in my opinion.
There are two extremes, both of which I disagree with in some ways.
1. Boycott the Olympics, and cut off trade until China changes it's Tibet policy - This could easily back China into a corner and escalate the situation. China might regard countries which chose to boycott the games as enemies, and would likely continue its ways with Tibet. For example, you already have Chinese groups hating the French because they think that the French intentionally let pro-Tibet activists disrupt the torch procession.
2. Go to the Olympics, and ignore Tibet completely. Avoid bringing politics into sport - I am probably in more agreement with this, however one cannot simply ignore Tibet. All participating countries need to be loud in their opposition to what China is doing, throughout the games.
I'm a fan of using close relations with a country to convince them to change; in the words of Lincoln, "the best way to defeat an enemy is to make him a friend."

We should invade them.

Well, while I think that invading China is definately too extreme (haha!), I definately think Western countries need to do more to pressure the country to do something about Tibet, and its relations with Sudan. Boycotting the Olympics would be great, but that's not exactly fair to the other countries of the world.. I think we're in a pickle here.

Well, the games are here and the world is watching! Is anyone here protesting the games? Anyone..?? I gave up on protesting it, and am watching it once and a while. What are your favorites to watch? What did you think of the opening ceremony? Whats your opinion on the games so far?

Unfortunately, there isn't any protests here in North Greece about the Condition in Thibet.... I like watching Basketball and Beach Volleyball.... can't think anything else right now...
Well, I didn't like so much the opening ceremony except for a few remarkable events, like in the beginning with the olympic circles and the lights.. I think it had some similarities with the Olympic Games of Athens 2004...

Hehe! Well, I really liked the opening ceremony, especially when the olympic flame runner dude ran across the ceiling!
I like watching the aquatic events (swimming, diving, etc.), volleyball and basketball too.

While I did love the opening ceremony and the walks of the many different countrys around the World. There was one thing I kinda felt was a problem and that was the time took on one country. While I am proud of all the countries most of all the US YAY! Took home three Gold Medals and more to go he is beating his on records what is that.

New Zealand will lose to U.S.A. in the final I think. We have a top notch basketball team.
Most of our medals come from rowing, and some from other random sports.

Hehe! We'll have to see Haris.. muhahahaaa. I'm happy that the U.S. wins so many medals and is good at such a large variety of things.. but sometimes I think it makes us look as sore-winners.

I think population has to be considered. I usually divide the population of each country by its gold medals at the end, to get a clearer picture.
