We have heard about so many different kinds/forms of discrimination - gender discrimination, racial discrimination etc.etc.I was only wondering, that why did we let all happen? How did we accept discrimination in any sphere of life?
How could one particular race consider itself superior to an other race? Why didn't our ancestors fight against discrimination?
Another example - How was it that one gender (read "males") declared themselves superior, while the other one accepted its inferiority?
How can anyone accept being treated as inferior? Why did they let the discrimination thing grow? Had our ancestors lived with equality and harmony, the future generations wouldn't have had to face any frustration due to inequality.
And I'm pretty surprised to think that concepts of discrimination and inequality were ingrained so deeply in everyone's mindset and were passed down to every generation...Why didn't anyone challenge this social disease of discrimination?
I wonder why didn't anyone try to kill the serpent in the egg itself...

Dunno y humans behave like that, since the remote origins people were already discriminated, for example education in Rome. I'm not a person who discriminates others so I may not understand it very well but the logical excuse I find is that is has being heridited through time, thus many ppl are being educated from the early childhood to discriminate others. You can find more details on: www.campusreportonline.net/main/articles.php?id=1488 a recent article (Feb.2007) Btw I've found some interesting data. These are the main reasons for discrimination This is a graph that shows denials because of discrimination. This pisses me off I tried to find the main reasons but there's an awesome scientific analysis about why humans behave that way. It's worth looking at. www.pnas.org/cgi/content/full/98/21/12307Cheers, Vox

some let this happen out of fear! some let it happen out of personal interests! some let it happen out of ego!! and maybe some other reasons!! but all can't be justified!!!

Great post Vox! People are different--mindset, culture, etc. I read once in a book, if you're doing good and someone is always opposing you or making your life miserable, don't ask why because there is no sound explantion for that...they just do. But of course, some people are well-rounded and knowledgeable and these people question the current dominant force or thinking ie discrimination. We cannot impose our beliefs to others but we can always continue doing what is good and make this world more balanced. I just read before I came online, there is a consciousness or thinking or whatever which is called, "Yetzer-tov" or the "inclination to do good" (in the context of anti-discrimination or cleaning the environment). If this is our purpose then so be it.

Great thread. Vox, that information is so true! and it's a shame to see graphics like that. People take their differences like characteristics that make their group better than others. I don't know if this is one of the first things in the human mind, I hope no. But it seems like nowadays and from a looong time ago, discrimination is a principal phenomen of separation and violence in our society. Is this a manifestation of power? or just egoism? maybe it's just to feel better, I don't know. But yes I know it hurts a lot of people, and yes I know it causes a lot of problems/wars/etc. There's no way to modify the past, but I think we should focus more in the present. I mean, for example, in my school discrimination is an ordinary thing. It happens every day (and that makes me sick). About religions, sex, ages, etc. So it makes me think if we don't need an education which teach us to share things with each other, to tolerate and even appreciate the differences. Maybe I'm out of the thread sorry.

AK you know what I think? discrimination is a state of mind. Ok call it the suriority /inferiority complex. Racial discrimination started during the slave trade when african brothers betrayed their own brothers at the altar of material riches. Gender discrimantion? Ask God why He created Adam first. Many people take a cue from there even though they are not christians. Point of correction, the complexes are not engraved in everybody's heart. Many people from dissenting tribes or religions want to run things and they are eager to do it. However this is not the issue. IS THERE ANY NEED CRYING OVER SPILT MILK? CHECK THE NEXT THREAD FOR WHAT YOUTHS LIKE US SHOULD BE DISCUSSING.
