I have heard it in the news a couple of days ago that Turkey has banned girls wearing Hijab while in universities. Turkey is a secular country. I want to know what you guys think? Is it up to the governments to decide on such things? Is it right? Is it wrong? Where do you stand on such things? Is it religious freedom they're taking away? For me, I think it's wrong they ban it because they are taking the right to freedom of choice of what to wear from women. Please share your opinions here.

Well, for this case I think that the Turkish government does not have the right to ban hijabs in universities. As you say, the girls are entitled to wear whatever they choose to wear, whether it's mini-skirts, fuzzy hair or hijabs, as in this case. However, but I don't think this applies here, if it were another place in which the workers or students all had to wear the same uniform, then I'd have to say that the entity needs to forbid all informal attire. This is a direct and obvious consequence of having to wear the same uniform. Please notice that not only the hijab is banned, but the hijab among those garments. This is a great topic, Noor, have a karma!

Thanks a lot for sharing your views Vic. I understand what you're saying about this case when there are uniforms.

Hmm.. I don't think that they should ban wearing Hijab... I don't think that doing this makes their country be modern or sth... it's people's right to wear it or not.. .don't u think so? Especially in the Universities, were people have the right to express themselves free

as a muslim countruy i donot think that turkey's govt, should do so. hijab means to cover. if anyone wants to cover her body or face then its her right. as if anyone is wearing modern dresses. if govt is allowing mini skirts then y not hijab. its against islam.
