Anu Oprah and Tyra (Banks) would be proud of you.. I absolutely agree with you about feminism we're all equals women often just don't get threated that way and that's the reason for feminism to become true equals.. Why thank you so much Jenny! I feel honored... You're absolutely right. The sole reason why we need feminism is that though we're supposed to be treated as equals, but in reality we aren't getting what we rightfully deserve. Feminism is clearly NOT a force or fight against men.Threatening or displacing men is not the aim of feminism. In fact, I feel it's a pity that of all the movements for equality and rights in the history of the world, it is feminism which is being questioned, ridiculed, doubted, misinterpreted and/or opposed so vehemently and repeatedly that too, by females themselves. Women's rights exist mainly on paper, but the ground reality is starkly different. And it is that ground reality that feminists want to focus on and change for the better. I'll definitely talk more on this issue. yeah indeed, there are so many prejudice about feminism it's sad really.. By the way I said that because both Oprah and Tyra have multiple programs and projects celebrating women and what they contribute to society Karma for you Anu

Now, why I said that women too, are responsible for their low status in the society.I'll use examples from my own country:
Women who submit to and support patriarchy are granted special privileges by males. They get to have more say in the everyday affairs of the household and get the charge of all the homely activities like cooking meals or making decisions about the home and get gifts from males. In addition, such women also get more attention from males and the society. They can get to command authority over other females in the household too.
Mothers-in law conspire against their daughters-in-law (in many cases) and make life a living hell for them if they bring less dowry. Many dowry death cases are there, in which the mother-in-law and the sister-in-law instigate the husband to burn his wife to death if she brings less dowry.
Females themselves tend to opt for sex-selective abortions. They yield to the pressure of bearing only sons and no daughters. They tend to favour their sons and their well-being and prepare the daughter for a life of submission and drudgery.
In majority of cases, almost 90-95% of times, it is your fellow females who make you believe that you're inferior to men or men are superior to you or that you were born to serve men and rear kids.
Women curse each other, they ridicule the supposedly "fallen woman" (like rape victims, widows etc.), they weep at the birth of daughters, they give a kingly status to their sons, they pray (in India) and fast rigorously for the well-being of their male relatives like husbands, sons and brothers. They participate actively in the customs and rituals that glorify men and reduce women to dust.
Women helped men in gaining control over women. We have a very popular proverb that says - "A woman is a woman's own worst enemy".And I totally believe it.
Men turned out to be so clever that they succeeded in pitting women against their own kind. They used women themselves to strengthen their own position and degrade females' position. It's a pity that women (knowingly or unknowingly) helped men in lowering women's status.

yeah your kind of right.. We should think more about what we do and how that affects us.. I mean a lot of women have started to believe that they're less worth than men especially in the cases you mentioned, when you hear something all the time you'll start to believe it after a while that's not just the case with women but in general.. It's one of the reasons I like history you can see how this patern just continues we can really learn from it because in the two World Wars women had the lead in their countries they were important but after that they just let themselves be lead to the way it was before... We can make an end to all this by just looking at men and women as the same(with lil differences of course but in value and threatment) and threating eachother as real equals no differences (like in jobs and who gets what first) And we should stop back stabbing each other and all the jealousy that goes with a lot of women they're always jealous of eachother Thnx for the Karma and the compliment Anu! I agree with what you said P.S Did you hear Don't let me get me from Pink it's about this but more life in general.. it's a good song...

yeah it's just for moral support for people who feel like that, but the phrase doctor doctor won't you please perscribe me something a day in the life of someone else.. Is more about being able to walk in someone elses shoes for a day to get to know that everyone has problems how smooth their lifes may appear At the end of the day you're your worst enemy but you're also your own best friend you just need to find a good balance between the two of them But yeah you're right, it's good thing when you're happy with yourselve by the way

yea, but you know we all say that we just want to live someone else's life for just a day, but we need to realize that everyone have their own share of problems right? and we need to remember that we should believe in ourselves because sometimes we fail to do that and make low self-esteem get to us..

This is a great topic. But many respondents have either muggled up the facts or have confused the issue.Feminism is advocacy for empowerment. So the question goesDO YOU LIKE FEMINISM? My answer: YES , because women are the best things that have happened to the world; because a woman is a liability when she does not have anything doing; because an idle mind is the devil's workshop; because if she is empowered she empowers nation; because if she is empowered, she will not sleep around or go to beg money for make-up or for some other stuff; because I hate lazy people; because I like women who have persevere and succed in their endeavours. These are they reasons why I will always advocate for women empowerment. As youths our role here as change agents is to encourage young girls no matter where we encounter them to be hardworking in their different fields of endeavour, not just in education.Even when they lose hope and remeber your nice and encouraging words they continue believeing that tomorrow will be better than today. Again we should be able to offer some kind of help to people especially people in our bracket. The money we use to change our wardrobe could turn around a whole community's life. Now tell me would that community ever forget anyone who does such a thing for them?

As far as I can tell, feminism arose mainly out of the Industrial Revolution which made housework easier, and allowed women to enter politics and the work force. These technological innovations were largely the creations of men. However, I think it is important to separate the Suffrage movement from the Feminism movement, the latter which is mainly concerned, at least at the top, as a lobbyist force often targeting men.
And while it would take an idiot to say that women haven't been discriminated against, it would take a retard to say that men haven't been equally, if not more disadvantaged.
For instance, their is the Titantic example, when men allowed the women and children to save themselves, while going down with the ship. This is based on an archaic notion of honor, dating back to humanitie's tribal period; one however which I still support to his day and see no reason for reversing.
That, however is only a light example. Take the ancient concept of conscription, again based on a code of honor that calls on young men in the prime's of their lives to die (Just or unjust deaths regardless) in order to protect the women, the children, and the elderly of their country.
My overriding point is simply this: When it comes to who has gotten the better deal throughout the course of history, it has usually been the beloved, protected female population, while males of course, have usually been more expendable. Think about it, where would you rather have been in 1918, in a trench or a kitchen? The answer, for me at least, is in the kitchen baking a ******* goose. Like I said earlier though, it isn't like women haven't gotten a raw deal. But to simply look at the fact that most politician's and business leaders are men means nothing, because those powerful males make up a fraction of a single percent of the overall male populace.
Men and women each have a respectable place in society. If my wife had a good job, and wanted me to stay home raising our children instead of seeking even more money, I would be happy to oblige. Forget the fact that I can't cook, hate cleaning, and would probably drown the kids, but I would be totally content letting my wife be breadwinner while I sat at home smoking weed and working on my jump shot.

Thinking about this issue, I just remembered a pretty amusing story from my 7th grade sex-ed class, when the boys and girls were separted in different rooms for a 2 day indoctrination. In one class, as my girl friends attested, the female 7th graders were taught the "Grab, twist, and pull" method, which I think speaks for itself and how men are perceived in society, when the critical lesson of sex-ed for girls is how to defend yourself from unwanted advances.
In the other class, were I and my friends were holed up; we were taught that we better keep our ****s in our pants and not even look at girls or else we'd have our manhood grab twisted and pulled off.
There is a sociological term that is currently slipping my mind, but it basically says that people will act how society expects them to act. In America, trends like these go in cycles, where at times men are more prized, and at other times women are more prized. It has to do with what men and women stand for symbolically and psycologically within a culture. During times of general peace, like what the world has largely seen since 1945, women are usually held to a higher standard. In times when the world is percieved by most to be in a crisis, like what it feels like we're headed in to now, men are more prized.

very deep xD Society has the concept of being the female the weakest individual and the male as the strongest and this can be justified by anatomic ways if we talk about a strength fight. I didn´t know of the grab'pull method, lol, but for example when i first entered my taekwondo classes, they focused on teaching me selfdefense (which i of course rejected while they thought the guys attack techniques and i was heavily pissed. Seems like there's a new trend to teach girls self defense compared to yrs ago. I kinda believe this is an answer (and a wrong one) to chauvinism (or whatever the contrary of feminism is called) Feminists sukc but i wont give my reasons here anyway i believe that men equal women, penis equal vagina and etc etc since we are the same organism but just divided so we are able to have kids with the advantage of having natural selection of the best features of both the mom and dad in equal ways i do think a girl should hit a boy, a boy should hit a girl, and those kind of stuff

Meh... I agree with you in principle but... Men and women have innate differences so just to say that men=women and every man should be treated the same as every women is going against hundreds of thousands of years of evolutionary development. Women have their own strengths, and men have their own strengths (The example of a phsyical fight not being relevent here). Basically, men and women are not equal and trying to frame the discussion like they are is bound to go no where.
This isn't to say of course that either men or women should be discriminated against or made less in any way, just that society should understand that males genetically perform some taskes better, and women genetically perform other taskes better.

As far as is possible, men and women should have the same rights.
In the West, women are empowered - if they are educated/rich.
Poor women are trapped and men take advantage. Poor women, often, grow up thinking of nothing more than attracting men - for their self-esteem.
They have no career ambitions. Thus, feminism needs to wake up and see that their "lower class" sisters are suffering - even though they do not know how or why.
