PACIFISM-Recruiters in public schools
Hey guys. I want to tell you a story. Today, at our school, the Navy recruiter set up a table in our school cafeteria. They had beautiful brochures, pencils, pens, even soda can covers.. all to promote the army, and enlist people to go off and defend our country. It's amazing how much free merchandise will go.. soon, there was a huge crowd of people around the small table, including most of my friends. I was the only person left at my table who wasn't intrigued by the navy recruiter (and the free stuff). Even my friends who had always been against the war in Iraq, soon we're amazed by the Navy's wonderful ways.
If this is how far the military will go, we minor as well just bring back the draft. In my opinion, I think recruiting in public schools is unconstitutional, and should be banned. It is an effort by the government to get us to recruit.. This is the equation I have come up with: more people fighting + more people dying. We've already got a war that is taking too many lives away. There are many other ways to pay for college.
I want to do something about this. Maybe create a campaign or petition or something. I can't stand it..
Let's END this.
Zach K.

Well, the army offers a program that gives you money off of college if you join the military. Obama wants to make a plan that gives you money off college if you volunteer and join the Peace Corps.

I understand that this has been a problem for quite some years now.. I hope you can change it, what Obama offers sounds way better to me.. This is actually very misleading.. A lot of people who get recruited this way won't be prepared for the actual horrors you see as a soldier every day.. This is making people go into a war all enthusiastic, this is the way people went into the war, in WW1.. The pamflets and stuff make it flashy but when they actually went into the war it soon turned out to be so different and so much less flashy and cool..
A campaign sounds good but maybe you could do a petition first..

Thanks for explaining Zach. Have a karma. Obama's way is much better. I'm not rooting for any candidate, for I hardly know anything about them, but his way sounds much better.

I know!
thats completely true....
it is not so easy to be a pacifist, coz some where inside us we (might) have the qualities like fasicism, extreme socialism and even terrorism...etc. in dormant state or in a different understanding of a similar concept. ( i say this bcoz i think i am one of them)
"one man's patriot is other man's terrorist"
while they get chance, they come out in one form or another (harmful, intentional or the other way round)
i may say that ur friends talking with that navy guy etc. was just the awakening of something inactive inside them.
so chances are, the unnecessary qualities may get boosted, which overall gives a misfortunate ending.
I completely agree with u on govt. recruiting at public schools, i ve never heard of such thing b4, to mention.
and about obama's thought it is certainly noble and novel.

I do not want the peace that passes understanding. I want the understanding which brings peace.

Of course it's not easy being a pacifist, but still... I think the goverment shouldn't be recruting people any more... enough is enough, and it was a stupid war from the beginig (well all wars start for dumbn reasons)
I don't know what they say in the media in the states but here they have tried to make pepole forget that there is a war going on, they don't mention it any more,
besides I don't think any of the people that enlist are really aware of what their doing, you can't compare the state of things in iraq and in Mexico but still here we are starting to get aware of what it feels to see armed men all the time, to hear that in my hometown (I live like an hour way bcuz i go to college) there are shootings every now and then.....
