Hey, great thread Zach! This religion is so segmented, mocked but sometimes worshipped.. It's a really interesting topic. Karma for boss! Wuhu, the first one I give. Sooo, here in Peru A LOT of people is Christian, 3/4 Roman Catholic and 1/4 from the Evangelical Church (this started imposing in our society since the 1990's). Any social class you belong to, take for granted that some members, not to say all (in my case, my mom is agnostic) of them belong to the Catholic Church. I am not Christian, by the way! But as my surroundings are full of it... For me, Christianity is a highly important religion, and in the present (and before), the role of the Pope in the Roman Catholic Church has been absolutely important as he contains the morals and values of a vast quantity of the world population. His opinion is taken as the absolute truth for some, as he represents God on Earth. Oh, if someone does not know, Christians believe that Jesus was divine. I am aware that in other religions, he is an important prophet, but not regarded as son of god. A couple of things I cannot understand are: 1.) The radicalists (Opus Dei extremists, Creationists, etc.) 2.) Why a MALE Pope for the Catholic Church?! Simply tradition?... Or sexism? Or why not a female priest? Simply because Jesus did not add a woman between his apostles? This is the XXI, his customs were different.. Any questions about the Catholics, my sister is an extremist, I'll ask her !

I'm christian as well.. Although I do believe in Jesus and the message he spread and his believe the true basic of christianity I do not believe in the Catholic Church (I'm a catholic by birth but I don't support it) I think the catholic church has told to many lies and has uppressed to many people in it's history(look at the crusades and the lies they told people in the medieval for money).. It's also the answer (in my humble opinion) to your second question all this talk about women being less than men was created (at least in the christian society's) by the people who started the catholic church(jesus didn't start the catholic church by the way)... It's why women can't get priests or pope's... I don't think Jesus thought women where less, because his message was one of hope, peace and equality for everyone...

Right. I also do not believe that we must talk through someone to believe in god (Pope).
Karma for you.

well Christians are against homo's or atleast the old fashion christians are, the radicals.. Most christians have mellowed somewhat over these type of things.. But you know I'm not really an expert I only go to church sometimes, as I said I don't really believe in the Catholic church and all that surrounds it.. I do believe in the excistence and the message of Jesus though and that there's something more but that's about it.. Maybe other Christians can give you a better answer than me

Sure thing Huda. You´ve got half the story Jenny Catholics are against Gay Marriage. My congregation is actually FOR diversity between straight and gay people. In the bible, it says ¨marriage is between a man and a woman¨. BUT, it also says ¨you must love you neighbor¨. So, there are allot of arguments between the Catholic church and the Protestants (any kind of non-catholic church.. that broke away from the Catholic church in the 1500s, begining with Martin Luther). I´m not really sure about the homo part. Jesus actually helped homos, one of the low-looked upon in that part of history, in his time. But, I´m not so sure Hope that helps

I think that was restricted to each of the areas' policy. For example gay marriage is allowed in California but not in, let's say, New Orleans. Smth like that dpnds on states

Right... Lets say you are homo and live in New Orleans (like VOX said). You can still be homo, but not marry. It´s illegal to get married there (or whatever state), but no one says you can´t live together.. thats just what I think, again, not entirely sure.

Hey, I've a question. Yesterday I was going to Church with my sister (adult one, about 35) and to see my dad there, and we were just talking. She is a really devoted Catholic, which I don't criticize nor judge severely. However, we were late for Chuch so she was a bit stressed, and then she told me with a bit of humour: "Yesterday I almost collided with a woman because I was late to Church!" I laughed at first but then said: "How contradictory". Don't you agree? Aren't there many devoted Catholics or from other orders that think they LOVE God and their Church but don't follow Jesus' lead? They are not kind. My sister would have waited for that lady to cross the road with calm, there is no rush on arriving early to Church! It's weird... Dunno... Well, what do u think?

I agree, I think that christianity contradicts itselfs with God, I mean if God is almighty and if God is all that great don't you think God is a loving, forgiving and wise being? Why fear God? I never got that, I mean one moment he's great, wise and loving and the other moment they tell you to fear God and that the judgment and all that.. Christianity was created years and years after Jesus died (he really did die the way they say he did by the way that's all proven by scientists and archeologists), so I don't the stories in the bible should be taken literally and that you should look at it as a book full of stories with morals and a guide for one of the many ways you can lead your life. As I stated earlier I do believe in God and I do believe in Jesus and his message but I don't have any faith in the catholic way, I've seen and heard to much bad stuff about it... But that's my opinion and I respect the catholic people that are hardcore as long as they don't spread hate it's all good with me..

I wanna know something, like Jenny said: "I mean if God is almighty and if God is all that great" is it reasonable that God has a son??? I have to pop that question, on VOY this topic is so very heated up but I just wanna know what you all think about it. soorry if it offends anyone

Well if you mean Jesus by that than nope, it's proven Jesus lived in that age, he did die the way it says in the bible BUT Jesus actually had brothers and sisters, a teacher of mine told me that there were archeologists and scientist that could prove Jesus had brothers and sisters and all the other family members mortals have...
But the legend is all about Jesus teaching us a lesson and in a way that is all true he's not actually the son of god but he his mission in life was spreading the word of god and that's what it's all about..(but the opinions differ on this and this is merely my humble opinion, this is a touchy subject for a lot of christians and I respect the way they are able to believe)
