In the USA, yes, especially on Taking IT Global. I think the Millenium Develelopment Goals are great. How about everyone else?

I'm not quite sure, most actvists do but I'm not sure about our governement. I think they're too busy with debating about one perliaments real name and birthdate.. it's really frustrating to see.. My governement is a joke.

Here in India, I doubt if there's any concrete focus on the MDGs.In my city, no one knows what MDGs are, not even teachers & parents. They don't even know the full form of MDGs.The MDGs are only known and discussed in metropolitan cities like New Delhi & Bangalore (only by the general public and some social organisations).
No news channel has ever discussed the MDGs, no newspaper, no magazine....no mention about MDGs anywhere.Even in the Parliament the politicians are busy debating over silly issues like - whether to sing the National Song or not blahblahblah with no focus on the MDGs ever. Indian Government sucks!

Well the situation is almost same here n bangladesh.Recently we have had a public inquiry on MDGs. Someboby said its a BOMBs name, sumbdy said its an aeroplane, sum said its a machine,food,pistol.............. .etc. Actually MDGs are nt that much popular yet here.Wen Government wants to discuss anything the opposition is having a boycott always. The situation will repeat wen the govrnmnt will be the opposition again!

You're right. Its the same situation.Whenever you ask anyone about MDGs, they say they've no idea. Now if the people in our countries don't even know about the MDGs then how are we going to achieve these goals? In India, we haven't even been able to meet our national goals with our 5-year plans failing each time, I doubt if we can ever achieve even one of the MDGs...

Despite all i think India is in a better position bcoz u people hav such kind f patriotism(i dnt kno how positive it is,jst known frm Indian TV channels). But the total subcontinent has the common deadlock in common concerns. i dont think any of the south asian countries can be a model for the other countries since they are always in intrnal conflict such as Kashmir btwen india and pakistan, nepals king problem, tamil tiger f srilanka, extreamist in bangladesh etc etc..
These all r the obstacles to meet the common peoples right or any part of MDGs

These all r the obstacles to meet the common peoples right or any part of MDGs The patriotism which you see on TV is actually nothing more than vote bank for fascist parties like the BJP and its allies. But this doesn't mean that we're not patriotic at all.In India, people do love their motherland, but sadly don't really come forward to do anything for the country. You're absolutely right, our internal conflicts, communal riots and other tensions over our local issues have shifted our focus from the MDGs.God knows what will become of our countries in case we continue to go on like this....

The sad fact is that, our government is just good in talking about the goals but there's no concrete action. The government officials like to discuss how to make their term longer through Charter Change but to talk about the plans and steps on how to achieve the MDG, sheesh! It's all talks. That's the reason why I'd rather work with ngo's that with the government; the culture of the latter is...insane.

Yes right!I absolutely agree with you, hekatea. Its always talks, talks and still more talks. No mention of a concrete action anywhere. You're right, the culture of the government is indeed insane! I think, in India, many of the people within the government itself are ignorant about MDGs.What to talk of MDGs, the people in our country don't even know much about the goals of the country's national 5-year plans. Its a dismal situation really. By the way, karma for you hekatea!

Yeah Karma for you hekatea. Welcome to the boards! But, I would like to work with the NGOs and the government as well. Just because the goverment is not doing something now, doesn't mean we can't change that

Just because the goverment is not doing something now, doesn't mean we can't change that I agree with you Zach. I tried working with the government as a volunteer but I couln't take it, it's different. Maybe in some other time, people will be better. I cannot lose hope, can I? Talking about MDG and trying to analyze it is, in a way, our own little way in achieving it. A lot of us, I'm sure, work as a volunteer somewhere and share our skills and talents with other people. We can probaly have our own Daily/Weekly/Monthly Development Goals.

Maybe, both of you are right... If the government isn't doing anything, then we ourselves can do our bit in achieving the MDGs.I agree, we shouldn't lose hope!

Yeah, really most of our government are busy not of MDG at the moment, that shouldn't stop us because anything good will always be accepting I believe. Like in Nigeria, I think this issue will be more vibrant after our election but we should not relent at all in our proceedings possibly we can.

Here In Côte d'Ivoire, young people in their majority don't know MDGs because of a lack of news about it.We try to make a campaign but we don't get any support because people are not interested about it because they think that it will be difficult to reach these goals. But we are trying to do our best in spite of all.
