Last night I bought some anime dvds and the plot left me thinking...
If you had the chance and the power to kill criminals would you do it for the benefit of the world? You can choose who to kill and how they die.
Somehow this ends up in what is the maximum penalty for crime. Do you agree with this? Should we only kill murderers, terrorists or should be include rapists and thieves?
Cheers,
Vox
Note for Takako-chan ;D (u know which anime I'm talking about so ya better don't spoil it for me plssss T.T )

well, if you mean people like the police or people who are involved and people in power, then not all criminals should be killed, it really depends on their crime! and rapists should be killed, I think!

Whether rapists should be killed or not is a current issue being discussed in Peru. The prob is that women want to kill them as well as young men but old men are the main opposers... and most of them come from the government with archives stating that they've raped their maids, daughters, dogs, or anything they'll be able to have sexual pleasure with
I also agree they should be killed =P

I have to differ here. I completely oppose to death sentences of ANY sort, whether the person involved is a rapist, a murderer, etc., 'coz I am a pacifist. We do not have the license to end somebody else's life, because what you think is wrong may be completely right for somebody else, and by killing someone you will be commiting a huge mistake. However, if... For instance, I had a child and he/she ended up raped by a guy, it is highly possible that I would not be able to control myself and my simple emotions of anger, thus killing that person with my own, bare hands Of course, later I would walk to jail and accept all the guilt and probably end up locked up forever and ever!

First, I think we have to control ourselves: we can't kill everyone that hurst or do bad things. But there are some cases... when people are free after the criminal act, so I pretend they have to 1) be in jail 2) don't have the possibility to get out of it. Here in Argentina you kill someone and the justice gives you three years of jail. Oh! Then I would kill a lot of people! I think in a murder case we should accept that a life can't be 'pay' in two or three years with chances of liberty before. I agree in some things with Vic, but I think the Justice system must change in some aspects.
[Note for Vox: Death noooote *-*! oh yey it's love]

as most of u guys said , killing criminals is not the best thing to do..... imagine such thing is done and try to find a tiny difference between us and animals in the jungle? I can't kill an ant- a big supporter of the live and let live whole concept ! a judicial system that is applied to all equally is a fair thing.... whether it is based on civil or religious regulations this system is something standardised , something that it fit for all ....this way the whole eye for an eye thing can be limited or otherwise we are criminals our selves.....

No,certainly not. We don't have the right to take sb life, even if this sb harmed us or a relative! I believe that only God, no matter religion, has the right to take sb's life. Furthermore, where did the biggest human right of all gone? The human right to live.

NO!!!!!
No one has the right to take other's life....
I don't believe and support death sentence as a punishment.....
Not all criminals are wicked.... some of them might have the fate played in their life.....
But the best thing will be Having separate Jails with Different Procedures and punishments.....
Suppose if we have three types,
Type A - This one can be for all who has committed minimal crime, Like pocket pickers, Government Employees who are accused of Intentional delaying to do the duty, The people who Talk or kindle wrong notions about race, religion, sex etc...., People who had committed Minimal crimes in order protect themselves or their families Bcoz of the tension prevailed during the situation.....
Type B - This one can be for all criminals, who intentionally did crimes like Cheating the Government(Illegal Approvals for big Contracts, issuing Illegal certificates), Bribery, Adulteration, Who took Personal advantage in government's scheme, ETC>>>...(this includes a lot....)
Type C - This is the one for Murderers, Rapists, all wicked one's who practice Physically Torturing the weaker ones Because of Discriminative feeling, Terrorists can be here too......
Type A Jails should be more or less like a hostel with a strict warden, it needs moral educative tutors...
Jailers or some other similar staff should teach the prisoners about Discipline and counsel them regarding their problems, They should also try to rectify it through moral punishments (Like learning an art, working in Harmony),
Punishment Period can be for 3 months to 1 year,
Type B needs a separate inner department which is connected with Mass media, through which the criminals interact with the public and if they are ready to work with a de-promotion, and lessened salary for particular time...., they should be given chance.......
Punishment Period can be from 1 year to 7 years,
Type C should be the most surveillant Jail, with rehab centers and private cells to keep the mentally troubled criminals safe, it also can contain fields which require heavy physical work to make the criminals work hard (Especially for rapists) like quarry works etc..,
A separate Employment Facility with necessarry security can be made to all those who change their minds in jail and ready to work, from C.
Punishment Period can be from 7 years to Lifetime,
and also one should not be able to release from the punishment until the department makes sure that the criminal is ok to be socialized,
The flow must be From C=>B=>A.... if one is in C he must be in B and A for considerable time....
And the most important thing is ALL PUNISHMENTS SHOULD BE NON-BAILABLE.
At Last IF 1000's of people are in danger because of a particular criminal, then we should make ourselves stone-hearted and Exterminate the guy; [NOT AT ALL ADVISED, except for a huge reason like mentioned]

Yes,they have done wrong BUT I don't think its our job to 'serve justice' especially in some cases where individuals resort to 'vigilante justice.' I must say if humans had enough power to kill every and any criminal I think some would do in within the wink of an eye, especially when they're in the height of their emotions and afterall they'd be getting even and getting rid of these menaces.

Of course people don't think that one as an individual should be allowed to serve their own justice, but as a society, justice needs to tke place. Some crimes (such as murder) involve the criminal taking away other's rights by force. Someone who decides that they get to take away someone's rights and life, doesn't have any respect for what rights are and doesn't desirve those rights which they take from others.

I seem to think the exact opposite of people, then. Society is too flawed and conservative to serve proper justice, so I would kill a criminal by myself and not with this "society" that has not done more than complicate criminal cases and delayed family problems... And of course, when society is perfect, we may follow Gandhi's lead . Until then, let's follow Che Guevara's...

I'm going to have to strongly disagree about Gandhi's lead being perfect by any stretch of the imagination. This is the guy that told Britian to surrender to Germany rather than fight for their freedom, and told the Jews in concentration camps to accept death and walk willing into the fires of the incineration rooms.

An individual would let their emotions dictate what they do if they get to serve justice, and often they would probably get the wrong person or not be able to find the offender at all, so most likely no justice, or justice to the wrong person would be served which isn't anything close to justice, it's just Anarchy.

And what's so wrong with anarchy? Lol, sorry, I love annoying people with my anarchist beliefs ..! The judicial system hasn't usually brought a decent "justice". It will probably not change in a long time. So individual justice can lead to a better solution in many cases, if the person then redeems him or herself and accepts all the guilt. -Gandhi That's individual justice right there. I didn't say Gandhi was perfect, by the way, but I am a strong believer of non-violence . Here's a karma 4 u, oregonelephant! Great posts!

If some one murder's your friend, how do you go about finding justice? Do you pay a private investigator? If so, what about poorer families that can't afford one, should the poor be stuck with no justice? If you catch someone that you believe is the killer, do you believe that most people will have the ability to make an informed judgement on to what is right and how to properly do it without letting emotions take over. An impartial judical system that looks objectively upon innocent or guilty with no emotion that might be swayed by a sob story is the best and only fair way.

that's why we have the courts and the police. If you don't have a representer(lawyer) in the court then the State gives you one. Of course he/she isn't the best but you have the representation! Unfortunately, I think that Justice doesn't exist in the courts (only in some cases)... Anyway, great post oregonelephant. Great! Thanks for posting! Karma's up!

I think that justice, although not perfect, is very good in the system, but of course I think it should always strive to be better and never be satisfied.
