Well, I want to change the world too. Because I still in my study in Univesity, I want to motivate the others through my blog or my article (my blog: narazak1boy.blogspot.com), because my talent is writing. I am a teacher in orphanage, too. I want to help the others who wanna learn but they aren't able to get education. Later, in my future I wanna be a robotic expert to help this world through my talent.
God, please help me to make my nice future so I have a nice story to be told 20 years later...

I was wondering if part of this forum could be dedicated to IDEAS?
In this, poverty problems - big or small, would be put forward and then people would propose practical ideas to solve them.
For example, I had the idea that poor people in third world countries could, perhaps, provide drawings/illustrations for publication in developed countries. There must be artistic talent amongst the most poverty-stricken. If they had a few resources and somehow their results could be made commercially-viable, then this could be a great, sustainable way for them to earn income.
But there are so many ???s in this idea which I can't solve!
I mean, with electronic communication, illustrations could easily be transferred to a Western country and used in magazines or books or something. It'd need organization, business acumen, money and courage - but I'm sure someone can do this.

Hey, of course you can't post your ideas about how to solve some world problems or your country's issues!
Yesterday during dinner, I had the pleasure of listening to a couple of bright women who discussed about how to help Peru move forward. Here are some ideas they had: 1.) In France, there are many varieties of cheese. Each farmer produces very distinctive types of cheese, so you are actually paying for all the value each type of cheese has because of that (what type of grass the cow ate, the place where the cattle is from, etc.) The same could be done in Peru. We have over 3000 potato varieties (for real!), and they are all sold as if they cost the same. Peasants earn almost nothing, their work is not valued. So our great potato species are not being invested on as they should.
2.) Some people eat rabbits, others eat swine, here we eat guinea pigs. But the ways to cook it and the guinea pig itself aren't being exported, when they could easily become a high income for our country. Why aren't people investing? Because they'd have to chase all the farms to make them follow the sanity rules respected among other countries, which obviously we don't follow here.
3.) Why do people from the jungle and people from the mountains receive the same kind of textbooks than people in the city when they're trying to learn how to read, write and do math? Some don't even know what a "bathtub" is but the government expects them to write sentences with that word!
4.) But then again, how can we expect all children to attend school if their parents prefer them to work on the fields and some of them are too malnourished to understand what the teacher is saying? How can we expect them to develop proper skills like this?
I heard about this and so much more yesterday, I was amazed. Basically, what we need here is $$$. People are not willing to invest for a number of reasons, so that's the most complicated aspect of the situation.

I have a vision. With all we hear of young people and mental health issues/suicide I have always thought that Mental Wellness be taught in schools as part of basic education. In my own experience The healing properties of Art on mental wellness is fundamental. On a local level I envision a coffeehouse atmosphere where young people can be creative and be themselves among like minds--a safe haven for those who often times feel like outcasts because of their illness--an art gallery with all art by youth with mental health diagnoses--open mic for poetry readings, singing, guitar, etc.--also a resource center for info on suicide prevention and where to get help, etc. An environment that is welcoming, anti-stigma, and reflects the message that there is no shame in mental illness. Perhaps too, a publication featuring the works of young artists. The overall message "you are not alone." I believe in time all communities should have such a place. Maybe, just maybe there wouldn't be so much emotional torment among our young people. If I could prevent just one child from committing suicide I feel my efforts would be well worth it! Thank you.

woundedsparrow, Sorry for taking so long to reply to your post. Welcome to the YFCI boards! I'm sure you will find interesting to browse through other members' opinions about the same things you are interested in I love your vision of this alternative world where communities work together in order to improve their lives and help each other, reducing that sense of solitude that is so common in the modern world! We should aim for a world like this and, hey, participating here definitely helps our "communities" connect . Have a karma!
