The New Government of Greece was elected on the 16th of September. the conservative partie won again and the Prime Minister of Greece is once again Kostas Karamanlis.... Unfortunately, his government made some really bad things. They tried to change the Constitution of the Hellenic Republic in some ways, which weren't the best. He tried to establish Private Universities, sth not good for Greece and he tried to change Topic 24 that says "Forests and any other natural area is protected strictly in Hellas" into a topic that wouldn't protect the Forests at all. He didn't do many things about the Environment... Anyway that's our government

Jamaica has a democratic government.A general election was held a few months ago and Mr Bruce Golding of the Jamaica Labour Party was victorious. The People's National Party whose leader is Mrs Portia Simpson-Miller;has been in power for eighteen long years. The Most Honourable P.J. Patterson has been the Prime Minister for fourteen years. He is the longest serving Prime Minister for the country.I found this to be quite impressive as he retired at the age of 72. I love the democracy of my country as individuals get a chance to choose who the want to govern them. Also separation of powers is practiced so as to prevent individuals from abusing the power which they have been granted. The three branches of government are the Judicary,Executive and the Legislative.

Hey. Let me say a big thank you to YFCI for this forum. My government is nothing to write home about. It is only in the government of Nigeria that a mother can steal 628 million naira and still look over 50 million children who are not even sure of where and when the next meal will come form and sit tight even when it is glaring that she ought to step aside . It is in my country that a helpless child of 14 or even less is recruited to help his/ her elders in doing tasks that a 25 year old will find it difficult to do. It is in Nigeria that you see children of 13/ 14 years forced into prostitution by their madams or traffickers. The situation in Nigeria is that a major number of children and youths are not only uncertain about the next meal but also live every deplorable conditions. Child conductors, highway hawkers and street traders are a common sight. How about education? In Nigeria, not many are even sure if they would finish. The drop-out level is only measured by the number of street urchins one sees on the street. The news is not a good one.

The Republic of the Philippines is a democratic country on paper, but in practice it is still feudal. The Philippines is governed by different political dynasties who control the political and the economic power which in turn cause grave corruption leading to massive poverty and so on and so forth...

Welcome to YFCI, lb3d! I'm Victoria. Thanks for posting on the forum, have a karma . Has there even been a period of real democracy in the Philippines instead of having the government managed by a few political groups? In Peru, we have had several types of government: populist presidents, military regimes, so-called democrats, etc. It's very random to tell you the truth!

Ah, I haven't been here for so long & I feel guilty so let me write a reply.
The Republic of Singapore is a parlimentary democracy. As such, it is our parliment who votes on what they think is best for our society. Members of Parliment are representatives of their own "neighbourhood" or constituency. Since 1965 (when we were finally an independent country), the People's Action Party (PAP) have been the ruling party.
A lot of what I don't like about the government in Singapore is their very traditional & somewhat narrow perspective. Being homosexual is against the law and there is more focus on doing the best than helping others (hence Singaporean parents usually push their children to study study study). Our Prime Minister, Mr Lee Hsien Loong, has recently talked about how Singapore is a, and will always be, a conservative country but that doesn't mean we have to ostracize others who are different from ourselves.
Many people are quick to judge the government - how they earn so much and how they don't really "care" about the people in the middle of the financial curve. However, I feel that these people are ... I can't find the word. Our little island country has grown from nothing to being a metropolitan state with the help of our government. I think that a lot of people here are too used to the lifestyle (that being less crime, relatively safe, constant job openings & training progs, etc.) that they are quick to judge anything they feel is wrong BUT may be right for the country in the long run.

Dictatorship? That's awful! What about the people? I mean does your government at least do something for the people? Open new jobs, give food, drinking water, medical supplies? Why don't you share your point of view with us, by opening a thread in our Regional Boards, by clicking here... Good luck :/ Hope everything goes better :/

Here in the Philippines, adults who have less ignorance than uneducated ones tell us that us youths should vote for a parliamentary goverment. Democracy is not democracy here, it's already oligarchy. Family members take over the "presidential throne" blinded with money and social security. It's just really crappy, the unfortunate ones don't know they've been being brainwashed with unfulfilled promises and media. The goverment has complete control over everything. What happened to what they had called "democracy"? Where freedom of speech is legal? Seriously, it's becoming junky.
