Please discuss the topic of the death sentence for 5 Bulgarian Nurses and 1 Palestinan Doctor in Libya accused of deliberately infected children with HIV.

I think something went awfully wrong in that trial. I don't think you can even call it a trial, and I don't think they did it.

That doctor and those nurses were accused of infecting children with HIV but the it wasn't exactly a fair trial that convicted them there were (neutral) scientists who wanted to investegate the time of infection and they weren't allowed into the country stuff like that there's been a lot of commotion about..

today they were senteced to death actually , but I think if they were really behind this , they do deserve such sentence! how could any one cause a child to suffer from HIV\AIDS we all know that until this day there isn't any cure for this dreadful disease which will lead eventually to the death of those innocent children! I am not usually a suporter of death penalties but in such case I think I can overcome my beliefs!!!

Right, I agree with you. I also am not a supporter of the death penalty, but this was horrible. It's like murder x3. Nice post. Karma for you.l

Yeah but I think the whole thing was fishy I mean these people couldn't even defend themselves and it could've been proven those children were already infected and they didn't allow those tests to be taken, why? I agree it's horrible what happened and if they did do it then they deserve what punishment they get but this wasn't a fair trial and I think they should you just take those tests and prove they're guilty or not..

There might be something fishy ... but come to look at it , such accusations are not in the benifit of a country such as Lybia , we all know there are lots of things the Lybian government need to worry about other than accusing European nurses of such stuff! and besides the sentence might just be renounced , apparently the judge's words weren't final

I get what you say, but there's one thing that got me thinking our news and those stations are very political correct and they always stay neutral but even these people were talking about things in the trial not being right.. I don't know but unless these people get a fair trial I don't think they are guilty there were a lot of fishy things around this trial, why not allow these tests that can truly prove if they're guilty or not? Libya is incriminating its self..

The case took a whole new turn!!! the families might take compensations!! a million US dollars for every infected child!!! now there are over 300 kids living with Aids due to this, paying a million for each won't give them bak their health! but imagine the money is donated for research or given to WHO , the org is so poor! its budget is like 400 millions or so but going from a death sentence to compensations is a bit fishy , and the nurses might be sent to Bulgaria and do their sentence their based on some agreement between both countries long ago !!!

Six Bulgarian medics who were serving life sentences in Libya have arrived in Bulgaria today Tuesday, 24 July 2007. Following their release, ending their eight-year incarceration. They were immediately pardoned by Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov. The release had been made possible by a deal struck in Tripoli on improving Libya-EU ties.

Good Day to all of you. I am personally in kind of mixed feelings for both the parts. Of course when one think about the children who are infected and put yourself in the shoes of their parents their lives are doomed with or without a compensation. At the same time when you think about the accused, this provided them a safe passage. Some how it is not making sense at all.

It is sure not making sense , but come to think of it , it only shows the Libyan government attempt to fit in!! Its relations with the international society are not that prosperous and they are trying by all means to change this ... so this might be another attempt

yeah I don't get they just pardon them, are they free now? Or what? It's very confusing and this is not helping the parents and children and the doctor and nurses either they will never get a job without being cleared of charges and even if that happends they'll have a hard time finding a job.. But anyways the important thing is that these kids get the medical attention and treatment they need wether these people are guilty or not...

I think they weren't freed of charges completely but the sentence was taken down from death penalty to imprisonment and they will serve their sentence not in Lybia but in their country based on some agreement between the 2 parties sometime in the past decade ! and I'll have to concur with u , what really matters is those kids getting the medical care they need
