Fair trade! (and a bit about People Tree)

In these lovely videos, Harry Potter actress and Brown uni student Emma Watson explains why she has joined People Tree and what the heck the term "fair trade" means.


So what is it? According to her, it means...

You pay a fair price for something that you buy. So, what these massive clothing companies are doing is (selling) clothing as cheaply as they possibly can so that they sell as much as they possibly can (in order to) have huge profit margins. The people who make them don't get paid a fair price for their work... and, usually in the third world... they don't really have a choice... in the work place that can mean just... terrible inequality...

Would you participate in it? Do you think it's worth it or do you think profit-seeking companies will win over fair trade ones?

Well, I think that fair-trade can become the norm for many of our products. Here in the U.S., there are many opportunities to buy fair trade, whether it be coffee, chocolate, crafts/clothing, and much more.
