[I've posted it in another thread but I was wondering, if someone wants to know something about this country it would be useful to have a thread for that only!]
Country: Argentina
Language: Spanish ("castellano" we use "vos" for "you", not "tú")
Politics: federal presidential representative democratic republic (thanks Wikipedia, I didn't know how to translate it to english). Our president is Néstor Kirchner. There will be elections in october 2007. The country has 24 provinces (including Cap. Autónoma BA) which have departments as a division. In the little cities we have intendentes.
We've had dictatorships many times, the last time (and the worst) was from 1976 to 1982, with Jorge Rafael Videla as a president.
You can also know us for Perón, who has president of the country three times. Her wife, Eva Perón, was performed by Madonna in a movie "Evita" (with the song "No llores por mí Argentina" - "Don't cry for me Argentina")
Education: The system is divided in six years of primary school and six years of secondary school (three are obligatory and three are for different orientations like Languaje, Contability or Communication). Then you have colleges. We have nice universities.
Writers: Oh we have awesome writers! You can try to read some of them someday. Jorge Luis Borges, Julio Cortázar, Ernesto Sábato, Alejandra Pizarnik (I love her poetry), Roberto Arlt, Alfonsina Storni. We also have Quino, who has created the character Mafalda.
Music: There a lot of styles - mainly rock (Rata Blanca, Charly García, Ataque 77). We have "cumbia" and the variety "cumbia villera". I hate it, but it's a style very popular. And in my province, Córdoba, there is another style of music "cuarteto" - I hate it too. You can listen to it.. but really that's not my recomendation.
Religion: Roman Catholic, mainly.
