hi guys! I have a question. We all know what's happening with Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears. They are the rich and famous and a lot of young people are trying to emulate them. I'm just wondering, if these "troubled" and "troublesome" celebrity idols would be exposed to the harsh reality in the third world, say, extreme poverty, child prostitution, hiv and aids, child labour, child molestation and so on, do you think they would change the way they view the society? do you think they would still spend their time and money on drugs, sex, alcohol and excessive shopping?
I think they are just so into themselves that they feel nothing matters except the public to give them attention. The fact is they don't know what's happening in the world because they think "they are the world."
What do you think?

I agree, they're world strange.. They just don't care, they look the other way, and we're buying it, people pay to read how they party and what they do while partying while there are civil wars and disasters all around the world.. Like Pink once sang in Stupid Girls: Disaster is all around, a world of despair, their only concern: will it f*** up my hair? That does sum it up.. Karma for you for putting this on the table!

yes it's true.. the sad part is that we won't be sure of who really cares of them and the ones who do it just to buy our sympathy!!

I think they wouldn't change the way they view the society, because they have their 'own world', maybe as all of us, but in a 'particular view'. But it seems like they are hiding from their reality, because they use drugs and alcohol and I don't think it is only to 'have fun'. I also think that the mass-media should stop showing those lifes to us, because as you said, a lot of young people want to follow their... 'example'. They should focus more in real examples for the world. But this thing should be in another thread ^^

The ultimate thing is the effectiveness of mass media (esp. movies n stupid shows) over the youth part of society is extremely high. some of the celebrities are really stupid and they affect the minds of youth who are not ignited. Ultimately what they need is cheap publicity.... Can any one say that the so called "princess of pop" could have made to the current position, if she had focused only on the music and not at the stupid costumes n promos ? most of the Hyped celebrities now are Stupid,,,, I dont wanna be harsh, but i mean this..... i watched a foolish lad crying like hell for britney.....in youtube, i guess. I am clueless about what can be done to them..... ANY IDEAS?
