Should Condoms be issued in High Schools?

It is now an issue in my country wherein which certain groups want condoms to be issued in our high schools.

I totally disagree with this to an extent as this can be seen as PROMOTION rather than PROTECTION.I think more children will start having sex as a result of this; come on do you think all of them are going to have these condoms as souvenirs? Those who are sexually active are going to continue and those who aren't are going start sooner or later.

Who knows if these students are even going t use these condoms. Some may even use it as an excuse to have sex after all you gave them to us why not use it.
What has happened to the biblical values which should taught in the society?
Why not educate our nation's children more about abstinence?

I do agree with condoms being issued in high schools. However, I also agree with you, it is always better to go a step behind and teach about abstinence, as it is the safest way to avoid STDs and all the other negative effects starting sexual relations can have. Thing is, older generations know most of ours is already sexually active, so they are handling the issue with another method: "As you are not longer abstinent, be safe!" Of course, sthey should give some talks to the students, too, or else giving condoms for the sake of it won't get us anywhere!

I do agree with condoms in High School. Although, I believe that we should have also a sexual education in Schools in order to teach youths about Aids and so on..

I don't think they should be sold in High Schools because it would be promoting that it's okay to have sex underage. If they really need condoms, go down the street. The schools should talk about sex ed, like Haris said.

We have to face the facts with this one, kids do have sex and a lot of them are to embarrassed to go to a store and buy them.. At school on the toilets or where ever they can be purshased without anyone knowing it..

But I agree with all of you that when you sell them there should be a class to educate kids because even using a condom sometimes isn't enough to prevent certain things..

I believe that before we even think of selling/issuing/distributing condoms in high schools, we should first make sure that we have educated them enough about Sex and the consequences of Sex.

High school is the time when both libido and curiousity are high and distributing condoms would seem like an invitation to engage in sex rather than to keep from it.

My country is still conservative about things like this however the percentage of teenage pregnancy is slowly increasing. What I see that's lacking in our educational system is an extensive session on Sex (education) so definitely I don't agree with condoms beign issued in Philippine High Schools BEFORE we even get to well equip our students/youth with the understanding of the consequences of engaging in sex

In a way it is promotion but in the United States especially in our state imagine how many kids or pregnant and that why there is a need we want to make people safe and not having disease past around.

I agree with Victoria. I agree with condoms being used in high schools because I think sexually active people are still goint to have sex with or without condoms so it is better for them to have a quick access to them rather than having sex without prevention. On the other hand im catholic and I think abstinence is the right decision but not all of the people think the same way i Do.

I've thought a lot about this one, and I agree with both Jenny and Vic. We should definately educate kids more about it, and keep condoms in the bathrooms. Great thread
