Hey. I like this book thread. It interests me . Not because I want to review a book but because I'd like to write about some books I have read and have been touched by them. You won't believe it but I still do not drop james Hadley Chase till I finish it. His choice of words thrills me. The image he creates in one's mind while reading the story is out of this world. His detectives stories are interesting. no matter how fictious the story might be you still have something to pick up at the end of the reading. For me, i read one book close to three or four times.

Title: Like the flowing river Author: Paulo Coelho Publisher: Harper Collins In this book, there are several short stories and incidents that have happened with Paulo Coelho. They're always thought provoking. I must say that I completely loved this book, and I recommend it highly. It is simple, and every story has a great message to deliver. Here's the cover: www.readinggroups.co.uk/images/covers/036200/036256-fc12.jpgCool cover isn't it?

I haven't read this one noor, sorry.. but I've got another one of Paulo Coelho "The Warrior of the light", it's a collection of Coelho's posts in the newspapers, where human is a warrior of the light and tries to overcome the problems in the society. It's pretty simple, but consists a lot of advices in someone's life ..

However 'like the flowing river' has some articles about the warrior of light and how he lives his life and over comes the obstacles.

OMG Norman Mailer died! www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/books/11/10/mailer.obit/index.htmlCan't believe my eyes... Ok, I don't know how you'll react, personally I only knew about him from what people said and by watching a Gilmore Girls episode starring him . But what I know is that he was a praised American author that wrote many amazing books, and it is a shame he passed away today. I wish him all the best.

Title: The Zahir Author: Paulo Coelho Publisher: HarperCollins The Zahir is a story of a famous writer whose wife is found to be missing, whether she left him, was kiddnaped, died, they didn't know. At first he thinks she left him without a word and continues to live his life. But after sometime he finds himself constantly thinking about her and she becomes his obssession. He discovers more about the world, the people around him, himself and so much more when he tries to find her. I loved the book, I just thought it spoke of genuine feelings we have in life. My Rate: (Since I'm a biased Paulo Fan I won't rate it and I'll let other unbiased people judge the book)

Her society at first despises her for what she's done but then they learn to respect her for what she does for them and for the poor. It's about being strong no matter what you go through in life. Title: Deception Point Author: Dan Brown This book is just amazing, like Dan Brown's other books. He makes you read all day long to know the end because every page has a new twist. NASA just made the biggest discovery ever made, and now the scientists lives are in threat because they unraveled something devastating facts about NASA's discovery. It is just really interesting, and even though he's taking about things I may not have understood, he puts them in ways that anyone can understand and relate to what he write. I recommend this highly. My Rate: 10/10

Book: Franny and Zooey Author: JD Salinger
This is the second novel that was published by JD Salinger, author of "Catcher in the Rye"-one of the most read books in American history. This book deals with his created "Glass" family, as did most of his post-Catcher work, and is divided into two separate sections, as the story was published originally in the New Yorker months apart. The first section, Franny, deals with the youngest of the five Glass children as she goes to visit her rather pretentious boyfriend in college for a Football game. The section concludes with Franny having a mental breakdown, and picks up again in Zooey back in New York at the Glass house.
I've already given away too much of the plot, but this is easily one of the best books I've ever read. Salinger is the best author I've found at relaxing his reader and making him or her forget that they are reading a book at all. His style is absolutely flawless, and in the text is no evidence of any kind of lie from the author. This is the most honest piece of prose I've ever read, and it's sad because Salinger is definitely one of the under appreciated American writers, because critics were never much of a fan of his, and vice versa. Their is something in the characters that every reader can see in themselves, and it is this and not the subtle themes and motifs that make it such a great story.
If you are from outside the US and haven't read "Catcher in the Rye" (Which is pretty standard for middle school reading requirements) I would suggest reading that book before going on to "Franny and Zooey". It also wouldn't hurt to read a biography of Salinger on wikipedia beforehand, to see the type of person he was.
