My country, people mostly look upon race but I tell you wealth is costing more discrimination nowadays.

I think here prevails race. We got a lot of 'national insults' to people from other races/colour. That's really sad, because we are not able to see more than that.

In my country it's wealth and race. Due to the colonial mentality of most people here in the Philippines, they think that everything that comes from other countries, especially America, is the best. Sometimes, some fancy restaurants accept foreigners only when, in fact, we can pay as much. In the airports, if you don't look like mestiza (half-breed: Fil-Spanish, Fil-Chinese, or Fil-American), you'll be suspected as someone who'll hijack the plane or cause terroristic actions. Your bag will be inspected three times more than the mestizos or foreigners. Ignorant people think that if you're a mestiza, you have money, and it is so sad to say that a lot of ignorant people are wandering around the airports in the Philippines. The craziest thing about my country is that we are discriminated in our own land. I condemn any forms of discrimination. Hahahaha Like I said, we are a dysfunctional bunch.
I think it has to be Gender and Race and Zach is correct, to the mind of the Filipinos, make that collective minds, race is synonymous to wealth (and skin color too). If you're white-skinned, a Filipino could think that you're wealthy.
I know this country (and people) needs to grow up!

It depends where you are at for example when I go down to VA we all are treated equally and furthermore, I think in places like East Haven, Connecticut where a African American Kid was killed or look at what happen in New York

I think a lot of discrimination in my country is on race, wealth and sexual orientation. Growing up in Asia, I've come to dislike some of the older traditions and beliefs. A lot of it stems from stereotypical thinking and the fact that there is no emphasis on getting rid of these stigmas.

so what do you believe should be some of the changes within ur society For one, I think it's already quite difficult to change the thinking of the older generation so I think changes should encompass raising awareness to the younger generation. Parents should mind their language in front of their children and the media should show how hard work, not wealth, will help you succeed.

I think you raise a good point Rileysamm, the media is affecting all of us, and young people are easily persuaded. If they see their favourite tv star getting caught for smoking, they'll think it's cool. I think changing the society shouldn't just be focused on young people, yes they can be more open-minded than the other old members of society who would prefer things to stay the same, but I think if you want to change something you have to tackle every group of society. What needs to be done is simple, get people aware of what's happening so that they, themselves, can change it.
