But that is the problem, that things aren't really getting better! The rich are getting richer and the poor, are getting poorer.Poor people should be educated and told that no one is going to do anything for them...no one will come to lift them out of poverty...They themselves have to rise and fight for their basic rights and rewrite their destinies! No government will listen to their cries, no organization can succeed in the fight for their cause, until THEY themselves come forward. They should know that it's not a stuggle, but a battle - a battle for their own life, their future generations, their own existence. They can't accept poverty as their fate! They should know that as human beings they deserve all the basic necessities and good things in life. But they have to get what they deserve, no one else will give it to them. The hard part is that many of the poor have excepted being poor as their fate. Many of the poor are in South East Asia (Cambodia, Vietnam, so on) where their main religion is Hindu. They believe that being poor is their punishment for something that they did in a past life, bad karma. They veiw that because of the bad Karma, that there is nothing that can be done about it, just try to be nice to others so their next life is influenced by the good Karma they've generated in this life.

How do you define poverty? Poverty mean not having much, limited amount of money, not much material possessions and in need.
What does being poor mean to you?
Being poor means not having essentials resources such as food, safe drinking water, and shelter, lack resources such as access to information, education, health care, social status, political power,or the opportunity to develop meaningful connections with other people in society.

Let define Poverty as opportunity. Why that specific word because we have a opportunity to achieve and I believe that when you are put in certain situation you found something to conquer it.

well i guess the issue of poverty the real meaning of poverty can only be define by he who suffers from its threats.. well the dictionary juts give you what will be agree upon.
but poverty to me is when am mentally socially and economically deprived, of my human needs. mental in the sense that i wont think innovative ventures, socially that i am alienated and economically that i am not able to meet ma material needs like been able to buy food cloth and other basic necessities of life. wondering what causes such i will honestly say i don't know but is it a natural phenomenon well i am yet to answer that. but the worst effect of poverty to me is alienation.. in certain societies poverty of the majority leads to class system.. the minority rich abuse the majority poor is just so unfortunate.
i as an individual want to enjoy everything that life has install. i believed that the issues of poverty is very vital in knowing what poverty does. but the question is he who feels it know how it hurts but he who don't care about others will never know how it hurts.
seen some unfortunate people, people who are less fortunate that i am i feel so trouble.. i keep thinking how will it feel if i was in their shoes. how will society take me. such questions make me really sick at heart. but one thing i am working towards is to eradicate the dogmatic beliefs of poor majority that we can we the war against poverty and its bad effects only when we are united and we shall be glorious

Poor is where people still have shelter over their heads just that some things they can't afford
Poverty is where people are homeless , goes to bed hungry and sick . Those living in poverty are humans after all . Why do they deserve this kind of treatment ? They shouldn't be discriminated. We have a abundant supply of food but why aren't they getting anything ?

How Can We help stop It.
In Ghana the organization I work with is helping to create a better life for our women in communities with the introduction of a Village Savings and Loan. I think we all can learn alot from it and start the same in our countirs.

The label "poverty" is irrelevant to the lives of children - it's deprivation, and their real and perceived life chances that matter. Low-income children have always been at greater risk of a range of outcomes which we claim to be concerned about. These include low birth-weight, school problems, low self-esteem, hindered psychological and social development. These outcomes will clearly remain if the government ceases to label them poor, but the impetus to address the problem will be reduced.

Hi bellasky, welcome to the forums! My name is Victoria and I'm co-director of the Website . You've added very interesting input: the word "poverty" does not really matter when we consider the issue in a pragmatic way. What matters is to help those children and adults who are at risk: finding a plan of action and making it work. Have a karma And happy posting!

For me, being poor doesn't always mean that you have no money at all but also it means lack of education that results to poverty.

Poverty is a state where there unrecognization of people.this is so because, resources seem to be limited to some group of people, who become victims of a diabolic act caused by other.why is it that most african countries always claim they are poor but their leaders have more than the country's budget?citizens are pose to limited competed resources as a result of the leaders injustice!they force them to pay taxes on every item & embezzle the funds!they drive in wealth whilst they walk past those who made them rich,to depend on their lives, begging for alms just to eat!leaders become blind & never recognize them but they made them who they are today
