Dear friends, The "Anti-War" petition has been online since February, but till date, we have got only 93 signatures as opposed to the target of 500+ signatures that Zach had specified. I and Zach talked about it yesterday and we have noted that the petition is not active and is practically going nowhere. We thought that we must do something to promote it so that it doesn't go waste. Therefore, in this thread, I urge you all to please pitch in your ideas, suggestions and comments on how we can make our petition more effective so that we can meet the target of 500+ signatures. How do we make it more effective and forceful? What changes, if required, should be made in the draft of the petition, so that it is more clear and more people are interested to sign it? How do we promote it?What do you think is lacking in our approach? What should be done to make the petition more active and attract potential signatories? How can we meet our targets? Here's the link to the petition for reference - www.petitionspot.com/petitions/1yfcinternationalPlease contribute your ideas. We invite your participation. Thank you.

Dear All, I would like to also bring to your attention that Anu, the author of this thread , has also agreed to create and lead another petition about Global Warming and the effect on the lives of people today. Back on topic though, We are open to your questions and comments about how to further promote the petition. The online petition is a very important extra to our members. We appreciate all the comments ! Thanks, Zach, Founder/Admin

Okay.Well, I feel that in the present draft of our petition, the background of the issue (which is wars), its implications (the negative impacts), the present situation etc. are not clearly defined. The text is quite short and tries to cover up a little bit of everything, thereby making it look abrupt.
And it does not clearly convey who're the targets of the petition and what goals and aims does the petition exactly aims to achieve. And what is our organisation going to do with this petition. The draft needs to be revamped and we need to add more details in it so that people feel that they must sign it.

According to me, the title of the petition must be changed to - "No more Wars".
Okay now the current text has this line - "The war has costed more lives than saved." Therefore I suggest that we should describe this statement more explicitly by stating a few examples on how the lives have been affected and many lives lost.We can give those examples in 2-3 lines.
And now this line - "The war is costing billions of dollars plus cuts from Medicare and other programs in need of money!" Here too, we should describe in detail how the national income is largely being spent on wars, thereby cutting down the funding for education, health etc.We have to state a few facts, give some statistics to emphasise the effect this has had on people's life.
And finally, the following line - "This war on terror has become a public outrage and full of terribleness! Everyday, ordinary people die, no matter what side their on."
Here too, we need to describe how people not only in the US, but all over the world are being affected by this "war on terror".We should mention, how this has created a sense of fear and suspicion among the people and how Muslims and even Sikhs (and most other Asians) are being discriminated against and excluded due to this "war on terror".We should also mention that how this has led to an increase in hate crimes and racism.
Target must be stated clearly that whether this petition is addressed to the President of the US or someone else?
We need to add more facts, statistics and real life instances in the petition to introduce detail and specificity. This would make people see the importance and seriousness of the issue and emphasise the need to take action.Hence the petition can be made more effective and it can gain more momentum.

Wonderful Ideas !
As we have atleast 1 signature already, we cannot edit the petition they have already signed. But we CAN create a NEW petition and we can email all the signers and get then to re-sign.
What do you guys think?

Don't you remember Zach?We had talked about it last week.I told you that I'd be doing research on it and posting all the relevant links here. And from here you people can extract the info and content that would be used to alter the draft of the "Anti-War petition".Of course, I will also keep on adding my suggestions on the changes to be made in the draft, as I had told you earlier. I suppose you forgot about it.This is all about it.Also check my posts no. 4 and 5 in this thread where I had suggested what needs to be changed.

Yes, please people. We really need your feedback. Once I have some freetime (isn't cheap these days), I will try to maybe compose some kind of brainstorm doc. Maybe you, Anu, and some others could do the same.

I don't understand why anyone isn't interested to contribute in this thread.I'm tired of requesting people, just 1 or 2 persons can't finish the task.We surely need others' inputs as well. But I don't know what's the matter...
