Yes its interesting working without earning because its giving your heart and life to people in need. Am doing it at the Entebbe resource centre in computer training well am not qualified and this limits me but i would wish to qualify in any field if there is a chance. And i would feel very happy if one can organise me to voluteer in a 3rd world country away from my home country Uganda because i think it will be interesting. So any body with such an oppurtunity please conact me at kaweesamusa@yahoo.com.

I was a member/officer for Habitat for Humanity Cebu, Philippines and it was truly an awesome experience.
What we do is help build (literally) houses for the less fortunate. It's an non-profit, ecumenical international organization. What's great about the experience is the sense of fulfillment you get from helping people achieve their hopes and dreams of having their own nice little home. Plus, it was a great form of exercise -- mixing that cement!

Have you ever volunteered? What was the experience like? What did you do? How did you make an impact on the person you affected? How can we inspire other youth to volunteer?
Yes, I have volunteered in over five different places. It was a great experience where I learn numerous of things because of theses places I have assume positions that could never be seen for teens my age. Well one of them was New Haven Reads which is a literacy org. it provided free books and tutoring. When working there I served a variety of position doing it all to give back from Team Leader. Sub-Tutor, Tutor and last Youth Administrative Assistant where I handle talking with kids that need assistance and helping them found out what it is they need help with and basically act as there mentor as far as school people picking on you and etc. Just showing them the fun of volunteering pointing out the more you give don't like at it as your going to get something but it rewarding at the end.

I wrote an article for UNICEF once and a group of students from various schools joins up every 6 months for a week of volunteering. It's kind of spontaneous. Just a bunch of friends hopping on and off the bus at different hospitals or orphanage to cheer them up. During the 6 months interval, sometimes we wash cars to get money so that we can donate to the orphanages out of the city as some of them are just wooden huts. It's really very sad but it's the best 16 year old teens with overprotective paranoid parents Malaysians can do!

What you're doing is actually pretty great, kittykat! Not many people offer themselves as volunteers nowadays. It's cool you go to hospitals and orphanages, I volunteer at a hospital myself! It always feels nice to help people, whether the impact is big or small.

I had been wanting to do something voluntary for ages when my friend told me about a new group being created that was aiming to reduce teenage health issues in the city were I go to school. From joining that I was asked if I wanted to be a Peer Educator for the charity Barnardos. Peer Educators go into youth clubs and give them workshops on a subject which may face them as teenagers...drugs, teenage pregancy, alcohol etc. I did the training a few weeks ago but we haven't been able to do any workshops yet as we all need police checks. The experience has been really great and I can't wait to actually go into some youth clubs!
