Thank you so much for the karmas and your appreciation Vic and Zach! You made my day!! Here's a simple action for today - Help a child become self-reliant. Teach a child (maybe your younger sibling or cousin or perhaps the neighbor's child) to cover his/her school notebooks or pack his/her own bag, do his/her own homework or tie the laces of his/her shoes. Anything that makes the child feel self-reliant and independent. As Zach said, such actions help you bond better and promote goodwill and kindness as well. This action will not only give you the satisfaction of having done something worthwhile, but even make the child and his/her parents happy!

Sorry guys, I was busy with exams so couldn't post for many days. Here's a simple action for today - Avoid using plastic or polyethene bags. Even if you use them, then try to reuse them or send them for recycling. Usually, when told not to use plastic bags, we feel we could use paper bags. But using paper bags will only add to deforestation, water pollution and other related ecological effects. Use your own cloth bags or jute bags - these are reusable and environment-friendly. Ask the person who bags your groceries to use just one bag instead of two for lighter items. We don't need separate small bags for each item, we can fit everything in one or two large bag(s).

Here's a really simple action that struck me today, as I was watching my friend making doodles in her notebook in the free period. Use your pen or pencil only for doing important or necessary work. Many times, we aimlessly keep doodling or scribbling on pages or pieces of paper when we are free, bored or have nothing to do! This wastes both ink and paper. And when more ink will be required, so more refills will also be required (esp., in ball pens) - thus more plastic will be required to make the refills. This will lead to increased usage of plastic as well as increased waste in landfills. Also, more chemicals are used to produce more and more ink. In case of pencils, we'll end up using more lead and wood. Then there will be an increase in the demand and usage of paper too. Therefore, to prevent such magnifying consequences, better stop that useless scribbling or doodling! Do something else instead when you're bored! It's a small and seemingly insignificant action, but nonetheless it will make a difference!

that simple action u just posted Anu rocks! at my school, girls do the same (including me) when teachers aren't around and we're doing nothing the best thing to do seems to be grabbing a pencil and start doodling!!! it's fun I have to admit but really pointless and it's a real waste so from now on I'll try to write important things only and cut down my doodling on papers!!!

I have to admit I do make a looot of senseless scribbling on my school copybooks. Luckily I'm graduating this year, lol But I will try to handle myself, I also do it when I'm bored in my house! Shame, what a waste of paper and ink! It will be a hard, horrible journey for me, I am so used to doodling.. Haha but I'll do my best, thank you very-very much for this tip, Anu!

Hehe! Thanks guys! Even I myself used to do it whenever we were free or bored in the class. But my classmates do it too much all the time! Even while chatting with each other, they keep doodling, as if it were a reflex action like blinking one's eyes!! They even waste the chalk and marker pens (used to write on the board) in the same way when the teacher is not in the class! I lectured them on the same today And they did admit they should cut down on it, even though some of them were irritated on being pointed out over such a "small thing"! But yeah, a simple change in habit makes us more "responsible and conscious" people!

Oh I never really looked at it that way.. I draw and scribble down a lot of 'pointless things' in my books and papers.. Sometimes though it's the only way I'll get through a class.. I scribble down lyrics those type of things.. I'll try to cut it down..

it's a good point Anu, but it really helps getting some of the bordem we're feeling,, and sometimes, I write some lines and then maybe I can make something out of them, but it's a good thing that I only write with pencil, I don't like using pens except for notes from classes.. so I don't know if that helps a little. I can't promise that I can quit it, but it's good to think of it, who knows, maybe I'll try to do it less..

I just thought of this today- SAVE PAPER! Buy Hand Sanitizer instead of washing your hands every day. By doing this, you save paper by not having to use paper towells. If you don't have hand sanitizer in your country, use a dish towell to dry your hands, instead of wasting a sheet of paper to do so (paper towells)!

Those were all great ideas Zach! I'm sorry I didn't check out this thread for a long time. I think we should keep our existing threads alive, especially the ones which were a hit with the members. Here's a karma for you!
