Philippines. A country with a very rich history.Gained its independence in 1898 but to this day still struggles to fight for other problems of this modern time - terrorism, poverty, environmental deterioration to name a few. What can we Filipinos do? Do we always have to blame to state for whatever we are experiencing? ZOr are we also responsible for our own actions?

We hear about troubles in Philippines all the time ... confrontations with the police and such! In answer to ur question no nation can blame its state and government for the troubles in the country the people are involved in a way which means , yes people are responsible and if u r responsible for something then u have the power to change it It applies to all humans! once we acknowledge that we are responsible for our own problems, we can change them to the better all it needs is for us to know and then re create our reality * a bit of philosophy never killed any one *
anyways Karma's for creating this thread... looking forward to knowing more about Philippines through u I love countries where women got elected as presidents

I love my country, the Philippines, despite and inspite of bad publicity and bad political culture. There are so many nice places to see, so many nice people to meet! I am proud to be Filipino

I lived in the Philippines for 13 years =)
My mum always talks about how, many years ago, the Philippines was the Pearl of the Orient (Perla del mar oriente, anyone? Jose Rizal!) and how it was ahead of Korea and other South East Asian countries. And then it all changed =(
How to fix the problem, though, isn't really something I can think of. The shanty towns in Manila are a horrible sight to see.
