 Life in Mauritius
« Thread Started on Oct 22, 2006, 6:42am »

Hi everyone! I live in Mauritius. It is a small island in the Indian Ocean near Madagascar.

It is the number one tourist destination for many people around the world. There is a mixed community of Indians, Chinese, Muslims, Christians, Tamils and other religious or ethnic cultures cohabitating in some harmony. Very rarely do we see a fight among two communities. Our official language here is English but French is also widely spoken. Our mother tongue, though, is the "creole" a french dialect.

Lately Ive seen an emergence of violence among the youths here. These are some events that have occured.

- Some teenagers have killed a person just for a packet of cigarettes.
- Here some youths have started making pornographic movies with minors.
- The number of rapes on young girls and suicides among adolescents have increased significantly.

Anyone among you have any idea why these events take place and any ideas how to reduce them? Thank you very much.

I think your government should produce more public service advertisements to change the mindset of teenagers at your country. Media can influence people to change their behavior. But a public service ads wont do much. Need more regulations and people to enforce.
